Obituary for BESSIE ELLIS

Services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 14 at Brooks Chapel with Rev. Allen Stoddard and Rev. Bruce Kirby, officiating. Burial will follow at Dreamland Cemetery.The family will receive friends on Monday, March 13 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel. Bessie was born on November 11, 1924 in Moultrie, Georgia to Eugene and Mamie Brown Stringer. She was one of twelve children. She married Lloyd Ellis on January 26, 1946 in Lamesa. He preceded her in death in 2010. Bessie was an advanced Math teacher at Canyon High School for many years. She was a member of the Canyon High School Teachers Hall of Fame, the First Baptist Church of Ruidoso and the Boot Scootin’ Line Dancers. She spent time tutoring students and was an active volunteer for the Senior Citizens. Bessie enjoyed quilting while sitting out on her deck and she also enjoyed going to Sunday School. She loved to line dance and she really loved spending time with all of her family. Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Kay Burrus of Canyon; son, Bobby Earl Ellis of Ruidoso, NM; brother, Bob Stringer of Irving; five grandchildren, Kelly Daniel and husband Troy, Chris Burrus, Jason Ellis and wife Wendy, Cameron Burrus and wife Pam, and Tori Sandoval and husband Santiago; 16 great grandchildren; 10 great, great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 1655 Main St. #203, Lubbock, TX 79401.
