Obituary for Ben Byrd

Ben Byrd, 67, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2019.  Graveside services will be at 3:00 P.M. on Monday, December 2, 2019 at Dreamland Cemetery with Bob Miller, pastor of Crossroads Country Church, officiating.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon. Ben was born on August 9, 1952 in Canyon, Texas to JoZach and Dorothy Byrd.  He grew up in a farming and ranching family. He graduated from Canyon High School and attended the Denver Art Institute. On July 15, 1978, Ben married Sally Emerson in Amarillo. Ben never worked for anybody. He was his own boss. He was a talented artist and an avid reader and was self-taught in many areas such as welding, construction, and whatever needed to be done.  He had a love of the western culture and lifestyle, and later in life, he collected and traded in western collectibles. Ben was a loving husband, son, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law and uncle. He was preceded in death by his father, JoZach Byrd. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Sally; mother, Dorothy Byrd of Amarillo; sister, Dettie Byrd of Canyon; parents-in-law, David and Ermyne Emerson of Amarillo; and brothers-in-law, Joe and wife, Lynn, and Terry Emerson of Amarillo; and many nieces and nephews.   Thank you to Kindred Hospice for their kindness and compassionate care, and a special thank you to Erin, LaWanda, and Laura for their loving care, as well as Dr. Meikle, Gayla, and the infusion suite nurses at Texas Oncology.  The family suggests memorials be made to Cowfolks Care, 2700 S.
