Obituary for BEN ABBOTT

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, November 18 at Brooks Chapel with Jim Brown, pastor of Monterey Baptist Church, officiating. Ben was born September 16, 1934 to Morris and Izetta Rich Abbott in McLean. He married Maurine Scruggs on February 14, 1952 in Seymour. Ben was a farmer for 30 years and then spent many years working for Amarillo Independent School District and also as a greeter at the WalMart in Canyon. He was a former member of the Canyon Hills Church of Christ.Ben loved to fish and to square dance. He was a certified auctioneer and an avid welder. He also loved collecting barb wire and caps, and he really loved homemade banana nut ice cream. He was preceded in death by two sons, Timothy Lynn Abbott and Mark Neal Abbott; his parents; and two great grandsons, Kyler Scott Garrett and Kaide Michael Garrett. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Maurine; sister, Sharon Abbott Blake of Canyon; son, David Abbott and wife, Linda of Amarillo; daughter, Brenda Birkenfeld of Canyon; four grandchildren, Travis Michael Abbott and wife, Suzy, Hylie Garrett and husband, Travis Dustin Birkenfeld, and Kinsey Birkenfeld; three great granddaughters; three step great granddaughters; one step great grandson; and seven step great, great grandchildren.
