Obituary for Belva Sue (Bev) Porter

Belva Sue Porter, 84, of Canyon, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023.

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, March 9, 2023 at University Church of Christ with Jonathan Page, minister, officiating. Interment will follow at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 8 from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel.

Belva was born on June 4, 1938 in Bristow, Oklahoma to Carl and Willa Mae Doles.

She married Vernon Ralph ‘Mickey’ Porter on December 20, 1954.

Her kids, grandkids and great grandkids all loved “MeMe’s back scratches.” She was known for her Texas Sheet Cake, her Pound Cake, tuna salad & the best cinnamon toast. She loved to crochet. She kept a very clean and tidy home and wanted her children and grandchildren to do the same. She loved to be picked up and go for an evening drive. She kept her witty sense of humor and her warm sweet smile until the end. She made sure with every “goodbye” that each one of her family members knew she loved them and that she loved them with her whole heart. She made everyone feel like they were her favorite. She was a devoted member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed Sunday school or “ladies Bible Class” as she would call it. She was a devoted friend and family member to many. She was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ. She was special beyond words. She was the calm in anyone’s storm. The anchor when your soul felt lost. She was gracious, generous and always loved unconditionally. Always steadfast in prayer for each of us as a pillar in our family. She was home. She was love. She is the soft gentle spirit that will live on in each of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was surrounded by those who loved her on the evening of March 5th, when the beautiful Angel that came to visit her in her room in her last days, came back for her, and carried her home to be with her Savior for eternity.

Belva Sue Porter (Bev) as she was most commonly known, was cherished by all that loved and knew her. Her favorite names were Momma & Meme. Devoted wife of 66 years to Vernon Ralph Porter and mother to her 3 precious children, Pam, Kathy & Doak.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Gene Paul Doles.
Survivors include her children, Pam Porter 65, Kathy Fowler 63 and husband, Clyde, and James Doak Porter 61 and wife, Kim; her grandchildren, Jeremy Wheeler and wife, Lindsey, Kennah Grant and husband, Brooks, Jori Speer and husband, Levi, Jentry Porter and wife, Keela, and Quinton Fowler and wife, Kascha; her great grandchildren, Jacob Wheeler, Zachary Wheeler, Lauren Wheeler, Presleigh Grant, Bromley Speer, Emery Grant, Anniston Speer, and Navy Porter; and her siblings, Darl Doles and wife, Carol of Guthrie, OK, Caroline Steenveld and late husband, Les of Claremore, OK.
