Barbara Zonelle Dickerson was born on August 21, 1951, in Texarkana, Texas to Lloyd and Zonell (Hendricks). Bobbie’s parents were missionaries, and she grew up in Bolivia, Brazil, Honduras, and Colombia on the mission field with her family. She married David Dixon on August 25, 1973. Bobbie received both her Bachelor and Master’s in Nursing (’75, ‘91) at West Texas State University.

Bobbie loved her family. She loved her children and inspired them in so many ways through her stories and experiences. She impacted not only her children, but their friends, her students, and many others with her faith in Jesus and her zest for life. Bobbie also loved to travel. She was immensely proud that all her children loved to travel and see the world. These two loves merged together into many family trips that will never be forgotten.

Bobbie was also passionate about nursing and teaching nursing. She loved working in the hospital with Med-Surg patients. She taught nursing full-time for 23 years at West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas, and then University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. She retired in May of 2017 but continued doing clinicals in the hospital until November 2020. She often said she learned something new every day.
