Obituary for Aubrey Lee McDowell

Aubrey Lee McDowell, 81, of Canyon, Texas, died on Friday, February 21, 2020. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, February 24, 2020 at First Assembly of God Church in Canyon with Rev. Jerald Middaugh officiating. Burial will follow in Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Brooks Chapel.

Aubrey McDowell was born in Roxton, TX on July 4, 1938 to George and Nora McDowell. Aubrey worked for the Texas Highway Department for 35 years, retiring on March 1, 1990. Aubrey was very involved in the community and helping others. He was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church in Canyon. He served as the Volunteer Fire Chief for the Canyon Fire Department and was also a member of the Randall County Sheriff’s Posse. His favorite hobby was fishing, and he spent many summers in Red River fishing with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first two loving wives Doris Cooper and Sherry Hendricks; son Bobby McDowell; and brothers Bill, Scott, Forrest, and Glenn McDowell.

He is survived by his wife Lynn Watson; son Jeffrey Lewis and wife Charlie of Missouri City; three granddaughters, Haley Marie, Samantha Nicole, and Maggie Grace McDowell; one sister, Dorothy of Roxton; sister-in-law, Rose McDowell; and many nieces and nephews.
