Obituary for Allene Beets
Allene Beets, 104, of Canyon, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.
According to her birth certificate Allene was born on November 9, 1918, but she was actually born on November 18, 1918, in Webb City, Missouri to Murray and Stella (Kessler) Warinner. This error allowed for extra-long birthday celebrations, which she enjoyed thoroughly!
She was a teacher in schools of all types; one room, private, public, and Sunday school. She was also a social worker for the State of Arizona and Girl Scout field director. Allene hosted a radio program concerning education and was the author of I’ll Find You, Tumbleweed (a collection of children’s short stories) that was published on her 100th birthday. A lifelong learner, Allene enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, international travel, and participating in church activities. She loved her family and friends and led a purposeful life.
Allene is preceded in death by her husband, of 61 years, Martin Levi Beets, Sr. They resided in Savannah, Georgia and were longtime residents of Tucson, Arizona. She was also preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn McCarley of Amarillo. Survivors include her children, Martin L. Beets, Jr. and wife Sandy of Williams Lake, B.C., Canada and Claudia Ruth (Beets) Wilson of Canyon; five grandchildren, Virgil and Cindy Beets of Lucas, TX, Stephanie Ferguson of Williams Lake, B.C., Canada, Justin Beets of Vancouver, Canada, Holly McCarley of Canyon, TX, and J.W. Wilson of Corpus Christi, TX; five great-grandchildren, Jake and Caleb Beets of Lucas, TX, Alexandria Ferguson of Williams Lake, B.C., Canada, and Trenton and Ashton McCarley of Canyon, TX; and three great-great grandchildren, Cory, Carson, and Mackenzie of Williams Lake, B.C., Canada.
Graveside services will be 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Lowell Cemetery in Lowell, Kansas. Arrangements are by Derfelt Funeral Home in Galena, Kansas.
