Obituary for Alice Gertrude Allen
Alice Gertrude Allen, 90, of Canyon, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023. Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, November 13, 2023 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Canyon with Father Scott Raef as Celebrant. A vigil will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Brooks Chapel. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Umbarger.
Alice was born on July 6, 1933 in Umbarger to Conrad and Elizabeth Westhoff. She married A.B. Allen on August 28, 1973, and he preceded her in death in 2011. Alice received her Bachelor of Science in Primary Education and taught school for 36 years.
Alice was a life member of VFW and DAV. She was also a member of Altar Society in Brownfield, Texas, a member of TSTR, and was a Minister of Communion in Brownfield.
Alice is also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Theresa Westhoff and Rita Artho.
Survivors include four sisters, Helen Schwertmer of Canyon, TX, Margaret Giles of Justin, TX, Gladys Meyer of Canyon, TX, and Catherine Freeby of Amarillo, TX; two great granddaughters, Jessica and Shelby of Texarkana, TX; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
