Obituary for ALICE K. GERDSEN

Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Amarillo with Pastor David Schatte officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 19, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Brooks Funeral Directors. Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Canyon. Alice K. Gerdsen was born on December 28, 1917. Strong faith and the joy of life surrounded Alice. She welcomed all who entered her home with words of wisdom and with abundant food, a favorite being cinnamon rolls. She witnessed many advancements in the inventions that changed life as her life progressed over 93 years. All the while believing we should do our best and always place our trust in the Lord. Alice was devoted to her family and friends. She was a creative homemaker, a master seamstress, an admired saleslady for the Towne Shop and Shell"s Pharmacy, and was always ready for a good domino game. She was a dedicated Lutheran since 1942, and her earthly journey brought blessings to all who knew her. Her faith remained strong as she faced changing her address from her home to complete the journey to heaven and be met by open arms at her new address. Alice was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Mary Kuehn, her husband, Herbert Gerdsen, and a brother, Edwin "Sonny" Kuehn. She is survived by a son, Hank Gerdsen, of Canyon; two daughters, Phyllis Gerdsen, of Canyon and Rosemary Prichard and husband, Stanley, of Dallas; her sister, Cora Smith of Denver, CO; niece, Susan Drake and husband, Duane, of LaJolla, CA; great nephew, John Drake and great niece, Sara Drake, both of Washington, DC; sister-in-law, Claire Kuehn, of Canyon; nephew, Charlie Kuehn and wife, Andrea of Canyon; great nephews, Joshua and Miles Kuehn, of Canyon; and nephew, Ralph Kuehn and family, of Denver, CO; cousin, Florine Hall, of Alamogordo, NM; and a treasured friend and caregiver, Carol Kennedy and husband, Jim, and son, Trent, all of Canyon.
