Alan Ray Hawkins, 85, of Frisco, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2020. Graveside services will be at 12:00 P.M. on Monday, December 21, 2020 at Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon, Texas with Rev. Gene Jones officiating.
Alan was born on December 1, 1935 in Hale County, Texas to Advil Ray and Verda Gem (Clark) Hawkins. He was a 1954 graduate of Canyon High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from West Texas State College (now WTAMU) in 1966. He then received his Master’s in Education / History degree from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, CO and taught History in Colorado and Texas for many years.
Alan was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. He was extremely patriotic and keeping the U.S. flag flying was very important to him. Alan grew up on various ranches and loved horses. He considered himself a ‘Texas cowboy’ and loved everything about the Old West.
Alan is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Phillip Hawkins, and his aunt and uncle, Gene and Betty Morrison. Survivors include two sons, Kyle B. and Nancy Hawkins of Frisco, Texas and Alex G. and Sherri Hawkins of Palmer Lake, Colorado; two grandchildren, Heather and Brian Hawkins; an honorary son, Jonathan and Jessica James of Savannah, Texas; two brothers, David Hawkins of Dumas, Texas and Don Hawkins of Plainview, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
