Obituary for AL MINSON

Al Minson, 71, of Canyon, died Friday, November 30, 2001. Services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, December 3, 2001 at Paramount Terrace Christian Church in Amarillo with Rev. Mark Zimmerman and Rev. Brent Ashby officiating. On September 15, 1930, Al Minson was born in his family’s farmhouse outside of Vinita, Oklahoma to parents Albert and Bessie Hazel Minson. His sister Rosemary was two years older. Raised during the Depression, Al learned how to work and make use of what he had. He helped his father farm and milk dairy cows. Like his father, Al became a beekeeper and enjoyed grafting trees. From his mother, Al developed a love for gardening vegetables and flowers. After graduating from high school in Strang, Oklahoma in 1948, Al obtained a degree in accounting from Oklahoma State University in 1952. He taught high school for one year before serving in the United States Army. Al worked in the computer industry for many years before becoming an insurance agent and financial planner, the profession which he felt was his true calling. He enjoyed serving his clients and formed close friendships with many of them. In particular, Al delighted in showing young people how to save and invest to achieve financial security. Although not a native Texan, Al knew that he wanted to remain here when he first moved to the Panhandle. He enjoyed the climate and the people. With his first wife Maxine Peacher, Al had two sons, Matthew and Scott Minson. In 1977, Al met and married Jan Lamb, a widow with two children, Randall and Laurie Lamb. A Christian, Al faced death with the assurance that he had eternal life through Jesus Christ. He taught Sunday School to high school students and adults and always found his faith to be the most important part of his life. Al believed that studying the Bible and prayer helped him each day to be a better person than he would have been otherwise. Al was a member of the Fishermen’s class at Paramount Terrace Christian Church. Al is survived by his wife Jan, sister Rosemary Johnston of Vinita, Oklahoma, son Matthew Minson of Houston, Texas, son Scott Minson of Leander, Texas, son Randall Lamb of Amarillo, Texas and daughter Laurie Lamb Martin, son-in-law Todd Martin and grandson Luke Foster Martin of Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund at Paramount Terrace Christian Church or to the American Heart Association.
